Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster Series Set to Launch on April 19th

Square Enix has announced that the definitive Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster series featuring the first six titles in the franchise will be coming to consoles April 19th.

The Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster series isn’t new or a total surprise, since they were released slowly for PC in 2021 and 2022.

So surely a lot of us knew it would come as a package to home consoles eventually. I guess, more than anything, we are surprised it took this long!

They had announced the collection coming to Switch this past December, and now they are finally fulfilling that promise.

Square Enix announced the release date on their Youtube channel today. So we now know the collection will be available in less than two weeks!

Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster

As the name suggests, this Final Fantasy collection is a pixel remaster, which means that everything has been cleaned up and made appropriate for today’s HD screens.

One important new modification is a sharp pixel font added to the games, which should improve the visibility a lot. This is a welcome change for most.

There’s nothing worse than a bad font choice, and games seem to either get this very right or very wrong. Luckily… some games get a chance to right those past wrongs.

And a much more exciting change is a new rearranged score added to the games. If you prefer the original chiptune music, there is an easy setting to swap between the two.

There’s other quality of life improvements like adjusting the random encounter rate, speeding up game play, and boosting EXP leveling.

The option to speed up battles is a very welcome addition for any game that requires a lot of grinding. I loved this addition to Final Fantasy 12. And I’d certainly be keeping that option turned on here as well.

So if you happen to only want one of the first six Final Fantasy titles, they are between $11 and $17 each. However, the entire collection will run you $74.99 USD.

You do get a bit of a discount for purchasing them all. But dang… that’s a hefty pricetag.

The Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster series is set to drop on Nintendo Switch and PS4 on April 19th.

Needless to say, Final Fantasy had made a ton of previous appearances on Retro Dodo, like on our lists of the and the .

We even went through the exhausting process of determining exactly Spoiler alert – it’s WAY more than you’d think.
